Veggies before fruit… “Another
mom told me to try introducing my baby to vegetables before fruit. Long
before he got a bite of applesauce, I had him loving peas and spinach.
Now he’s almost three and absolutely loves vegetables.”
- Susan, mother of Jackson 2 1/2
Fruit and TV…better together “When
my daughter is watching TV, she is only allowed fruit – as much as she
wants. It’s amazing how much they eat when it is all they are allowed
to snack on!”
- Joanna, mother of Amy 3
Nothing that a little sibling rivalry can’t fix… “I
could not get my 2-year-old to eat her broccoli until her baby brother
started eating solid foods. I would give him lots of soft, small
broccoli. He enjoyed it so much that it caught my daughter’s attention
and she tried it again after not eating it for a year. Now she loves
it!”
- Ernestine, mother of Ella 2 ½ and Alexander 10 months |
Pack a snack…
“I
always pack water and healthy snacks when we go out. Then I’m not at
the mercy of what is available, which always seems to be chips. Not
that my son doesn’t have chips – I don’t believe in living in a bubble.
But now most of the time his snacks are healthy.”
- Nicole, mother of Jack 3
What’s an adult food anyway?
“My
son had a friend over and I offered to make them prosciutto roll-ups
for a snack. My son’s friend said, ‘My mom says prosciutto is an adult
food.’ My son responded, ‘It’s awesome. You should try it.’ He tried it
and loved it. I have always encouraged my kids to try a wide variety of
foods – and they are terrific, healthy eaters.”
- Laura, mother of Joseph 11 and Ariel 14
Be careful what you wish for…
“When
I became a vegetarian a few years ago, it started us all talking about
nutrition. Then one after another my two daughters became vegetarians
and became very interested in food issues in general. The older one
does research online and is always telling us new facts such as the
difference between vitamin D2 and D3. But be careful what you wish for!
My older daughter has gone beyond vegetarianism to veganism and wants
the rest of us to follow too. I fully support her decision, but I am
not ready to go vegan myself yet.”
- David, father of two daughters, 16 and 13
